Accelerometer & Vibration Sensor Calibration

NIST-traceable calibration of accelerometers, velocity sensors, proximity probe systems and 4–20 mA transmitters, from any manufacturer. Sensitivity and frequency response from 5 Hz to 10 kHz, with a PDF certificate for every sensor.

  • Any brandof vibration sensor
  • 5 Hz – 10 kHzfrequency response
  • ~1 weektypical turnaround in the lab
  • NISTtraceable certificate

Sensors we calibrate

Each sensor is calibrated by back-to-back comparison against a NIST-traceable reference accelerometer on our electrodynamic shaker.

SensorWhat we measureNotes
IEPE accelerometersSensitivity (mV/g), frequency response, bias voltage¼-28, 10-32, 2-56 and 6-32 mounting adapters on hand
Charge accelerometersSensitivity (pC/g), frequency responseMeasured with a built-in charge amplifier
Voltage, MEMS and piezoresistive accelerometersSensitivity, frequency responseDifferential outputs through our MEMS-100 adapter
Triaxial accelerometersEach axis: sensitivity and frequency responseEach axis tested in turn
Velocity sensors, piezo and moving coilSensitivity (mV/in/s or mV/mm/s), frequency responseUniversal velocity adapter for most housings
Proximity probe systemsIncremental scale factor over the linear range, gap voltage, dynamic responseProbe, extension cable and driver tested together against a 4140 steel target

What you get back

Certificate, one per sensor
  • Manufacturer, model and serial number
  • Sensitivity at the reference frequency
  • Each test point: frequency, amplitude, measured sensitivity and deviation from reference
  • Deviation graph across the frequency range
  • Calibration date, technician and traceability statement
Your test points
  • Your reference frequency, any whole number from 5 Hz to 10 kHz

How it works

  1. Send your listManufacturer, model and quantity of each sensor, plus any test points you need.
  2. Get a quoteWe confirm pricing and send shipping instructions. Please don't ship before you have them.
  3. We calibrateEach sensor is mounted and swept against our reference accelerometer.
  4. Back in about a weekSensors return with a PDF certificate each.

Calibrating sensors every month?

The AT2040 runs the same back-to-back tests on site: it powers and reads the sensor, sweeps up to 40 test points automatically and creates the PDF certificate. Use it for routine checks in-house, and send sensors to us when you need an outside calibration.

Sensor calibration questions

Which brands of sensor do you calibrate?

Any manufacturer, as long as the sensor mounts on our shaker and its output is one of the types listed above. Tell us the model when you ask for a quote.

Is sensor calibration accredited?

Sensor calibrations are NIST traceable. Our A2LA accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025:2017 covers the calibration of portable vibration calibrators, not sensors.

How long does it take?

About one week in the lab is typical, plus shipping time each way. We confirm the timing with your quote.

What frequency range can you test?

From 5 Hz to 10 kHz. The usable range for a given sensor depends on its mass and mounting, so heavy sensors may be tested over a narrower range or at lower levels.

What should I send for a proximity probe calibration?

Send the probe, its extension cable and its driver together, so the system is calibrated as it is installed. We test against a 4140 steel target, the material most probe systems are calibrated for.

Can you use my test points?

Yes. Give us your reference frequency (a whole number from 5 Hz to 10 kHz) and up to 40 frequency and amplitude points per sensor, for example the points on your sensor's original certificate.
